But not to worry! It's simple to backup your Favorites or Bookmarks onto a floppy disk, and then restore them.

Internet Explorer 5 & 6

  3. Choose Export Favorites from the list, and click Next.
  4. Highlight the Favorites folder at the top of the list and click Next.
  5. Choose to Export to a File or Address. Click the Browse button and choose your floppy disk drive (usually A:). Click Next.
  6. Click Finish. Your Favorites should now be save to the floppy disk.

To restore your Favorites:

Macintosh users will find options to Export Favorites and Import Favorites under the File menu.

Netscape Communicator 4.0-4.79 (Windows and Macintosh)

Each Netscape Profile keeps its bookmarks in a User folder. To begin, locate your user folder.

If you are using Windows, it's usually in the C:\Program Files\Netscape\Users\<Your username>. Copy the bookmark.htm file to your floppy disk. You can do this by clicking on the file once to highlight it, click the File menu, and choose Send to, then 3 ½ Floppy A:.

If you have a Macintosh, you should find it in the Hard Drive : System Folder : Preferences : Netscape Users: <Your username>. Copy the Bookmarks.asp file to your floppy disk. You can do this by dragging the file onto the floppy disk icon on the desktop.

To restore your Netscape bookmarks, copy the bookmark.htm (or Bookmarks.asp) from your floppy drive back into your user folder on the hard drive.

Netscape 6 (Windows and Macintosh)

To backup your Bookmarks:

  1. Open Netscape. Click the Bookmarks menu and choose Manage Bookmarks.
  2. Click the File menu and choose Export Bookmarks.
  3. On the Save as screen, choose your 3 ½ floppy drive and click Save.

To restore your Bookmarks, follow the process as above, but choose Import Bookmarks. Then, choose the bookmarks.asp file from your floppy drive.
